House Passes Farm Bill Conference Report
UPDATE: On Wednesday, May 14th, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the conference report on the 2008 Farm Bill, H.R. 2419, the Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 by a vote of 318-106. On Thursday, May 15th, the U.S. Senate approved the conference report for the 2008 Farm Bill, HR. 2419, by a vote of 81-15. Perhaps as early as next week, the bill will be sent to the desk of President George W. Bush for consideration and approval or veto.

Wildlife Groups Celebrate Centennial of Conservation Conference - May. 15, 2008
The leaders of the nation's top hunting and wildlife conservation organizations celebrated the visionary leadership of President Theodore Roosevelt at the Department of the Interior today while laying the groundwork for a plan to carry conservation efforts forward in the 21st Century.

Indiana makes history with new apprentice hunting license - May. 15, 2008
This past legislative session lawmakers created Indiana’s first apprentice hunting license. The new license allows first time hunters to try sporting under the supervision of an adult without having to first complete hunter’s safety education. If the hunter wishes to pursue sport hunting then the hunter must complete hunter’s safety education class. The idea of course is to get the new hunter involved, and recruit new members into the ranks of sport hunting.

Western Slopers Form New Pheasants Forever Chapter - May. 13, 2008
Conservationists and hunters in Colorado's Mesa County have formed the state's newest Pheasants Forever (PF) chapter, the Western Slope Chapter of PF. The group plans to focus its efforts on wildlife habitat improvement and youth hunter recruitment.

Pheasants Forever's Farm Bill Biologist Program Lands in North Dakota - May. 12, 2008
Pheasants Forever (PF) announces Steve Stensgard is the organization's first-ever Farm Bill Biologist in the state of North Dakota. Stensgard joins PF after serving as a wildlife biologist technician with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The position was created through a partnership with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Stensgard will work out of the Jamestown NRCS office.

PF and QF Launch Build a Wildlife Area Campaign in Illinois - May. 12, 2008
Pheasants Forever (PF) and Quail Forever (QF) recently announced the launch of the first annual Illinois Build a Wildlife Area campaign. Through the campaign, PF/QF and its partners will raise funds to be used for the acquisition of public game production areas in Illinois. All funds raised through the campaign will be tripled by matching grants.

Paulson Named PF/QF Regional Wildlife Biologist in Washington and Oregon - May. 12, 2008
Pheasants Forever, Inc. and Quail Forever announce that Kraig Paulson of Crane, Montana, has been named the organization's new regional wildlife biologist in Washington State and Oregon. Paulson assumes the position after spending two years as a Pheasants Forever habitat specialist in Montana.

Congressional Leaders Reach Farm Bill Agreement - May. 09, 2008
After nearly four months of extensions, House and Senate Farm Bill conferees have reached an agreement on the main elements of the 2008 Farm Bill. Pheasants Forever (PF) and Quail Forever (QF) urge both the House and the Senate to pass the legislation, and for President George W. Bush to sign the bill into law as quickly as possible. If passed, the bill would provide an additional $4 billion in new funding for conservation programs; welcome news for wildlife conservation and hunters.

Central Pennsylvania Home to Two New Pheasants Forever Chapters - May. 06, 2008
Central Pennsylvania is home to two new Pheasants Forever (PF) chapters. Residents from Blair County have formed the Blair County Chapter of PF, while residents from Centre County have formed the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of PF. Both groups are dedicated to habitat improvement that benefits upland birds, waterfowl, deer and other local wildlife.

Despite the expiration of 79,677 Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres in Minnesota since October 1 of last year, interest in CRP remains as evidenced by the 6,365 acres already offered for enrollment in the new State Acres For wildlife Enhancement (SAFE) conservation practice, the Minnesota Back Forty Pheasant Habitat program.
